Városmajor Church

Városmajor Church is a modern Catholic church building in the Buda district, distinguished by reinforced concrete construction with clean lines. The structure features a compact design with a visible bell tower that rises prominently above the surrounding residential area.

Architects Aladár and Bertalan Árkay designed and built this structure between 1933 and 1936, making it Hungary's first religious building constructed from reinforced concrete. This project pioneered modern church design methods in the country and opened new possibilities for contemporary religious architecture.

The interior combines Catholic religious elements with modern artistic features, displaying stained glass windows created by artist Lili Sztehlo Árkayné. These windows shape the light and atmosphere inside, making the contemporary design an integral part of worship.

The building is open to visitors daily and holds regular mass services, with public transportation access via the nearby Moszkva tér station. Visiting hours may vary depending on religious services, so it is helpful to check ahead to understand when ceremonies take place.

During World War II, a bomb impact left a mark on the church wall that appears to outline the Virgin Mary. This damage remains visible on the facade today and serves as a reminder of the building's history.
