Limerick is an administrative city in County Limerick, stretching along both banks of the Shannon with medieval structures and wide Georgian streets in the center. Pedestrian areas lead from the quays to the old town, while parks and public squares spread across the wider area.
Vikings founded the settlement in 812, before Normans expanded it into a strategic base with castle and town walls during the 13th century. Later it served as a trading port and grew into a Georgian commercial center in the 18th century.
