Celbridge, Historic market town in County Kildare, Ireland

Celbridge sits on both banks of the River Liffey, with residential areas connected by an 18th-century stone bridge that forms the town center. The river and this historic bridge are key landmarks that shape how the place is laid out.

The settlement began as Kildrought around a Norman castle and monastery in the 13th century. It took the name Celbridge sometime after 1714, marking a shift in its identity and growth.

This town is where Arthur Guinness was born, and you can see grand Georgian mansions dotting the landscape, especially Castletown House. These elegant buildings still define how the place looks and feels when you walk through it.

You can reach the town easily by bus from Dublin, and nearby Hazelhatch railway station offers additional transport options. Walking around is the best way to take in the bridge, river views, and grand houses scattered throughout.

Woollen mills along the River Liffey drove the town's growth during the 1800s and 1900s. These factories were the economic heartbeat of the community for generations.
