Millstreet, town in County Cork, Ireland
Millstreet is a small town in northwest County Cork, situated between the Derrynasaggart and Boggeragh Mountains. The town has around 1,400 residents and is shaped by the Blackwater River, which flows to the north, surrounded by rolling hills, green fields, and mountain ranges.
The town originated in the 18th century around a small mill on Station Road and grew into an important trade hub. It gained international recognition in 1993 when it hosted the Eurovision Song Contest at the Green Glens Arena, becoming the smallest town ever to host the event.
The name Sráid an Mhuilinn means 'Street of the Mill' and reflects the town's roots as a place of craft and work. Local pubs and shops today serve as gathering spots where the community comes together to share stories and celebrate Irish music and dance.
The town is served by a train station on the line between Tralee and Mallow, with local buses running regularly to nearby towns. Visit at any time of year, but check ahead for events at the Green Glens Arena, which hosts horse shows, music festivals, and other gatherings throughout the year.
The town has been twinned with Pommerit-le-Vicomte in Brittany, France, since 1985, with regular visits and cultural exchanges between the two communities. This partnership links two small places across borders through friendship and shared traditions.
