Ardfert Cathedral

Ardfert Cathedral is a complex of medieval church ruins in County Kerry with multiple structures displaying Romanesque architectural elements and Gothic additions. The site contains carved stone portals, inscribed grave markers, and wall decorations that reveal details about the people and practices that defined the buildings when they were active.

Founded in the early medieval period as a monastic and ecclesiastical center, the complex flourished as a diocesan seat for centuries before structural decline began. The buildings were gradually abandoned and now stand as protected remains documenting early Irish religious establishment and architecture.
