Tralee-Fenit Greenway, Off-road cycling path in County Kerry, Ireland.
Tralee-Fenit Greenway is a paved path stretching roughly 14 kilometers from the town of Tralee to the coastal village of Fenit. The route passes through varying landscapes, from town edges to open fields and eventually reaches waterside sections overlooking the bay.
The path follows the route of a 19th-century railway line that once connected Tralee's inland port with Fenit's maritime harbor. This rail connection was crucial for moving goods and people across the region until it closed, and has since been converted into a public recreational route.
The small communities along the route maintain their own identity, with local shops and gathering places reflecting everyday Irish village life. Walking or cycling through, you sense the rhythm of rural areas where people still know their neighbors.
The path is flat and suitable for cyclists of all abilities as well as walkers, with calm conditions throughout the day. Several rest stops are spaced along the route where you can take a break and enjoy the surroundings.
At several points along the route, you can spot old railway bridges and viaducts that still stand from their original purpose. These structures make for compelling photo subjects and remind you of the region's railway past.
