Galtymore

Galtymore is the highest point in the Galty Mountains, straddling the border between two Irish counties in the south. The mountain features a distinctive ridge and multiple trails ascending to the summit.

The summit area gained its current name in the late 1800s from a landowner connected to the region. Before this naming, the mountain had been known by its older Irish designation.

Local tradition weaves this peak into stories about early Christian history, reflecting how the mountain shaped beliefs in the region. Today, the place remains central to how nearby communities relate to their landscape.

The ascent is best attempted in dry conditions, as muddy sections can make the path slippery. Proper hiking boots and weather protection are essential, especially near the top where wind is stronger.

A white iron cross marks the summit and receives regular paint touch-ups to remain visible across the terrain. This marker catches many visitors by surprise as a small but meaningful detail that sets the mountain apart.
