Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Nathy, Ballaghaderreen

The Gothic Revival structure reaches a height of 59.6 meters with its bell tower and features an eight-bay nave with clerestory and lean-to side aisles.

Construction of the cathedral started in 1855 under Bishop Patrick Durcan's commission, and the building was consecrated in November 1860 to serve the Diocese of Achonry.

The cathedral bears the names of two religious figures: the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Nathy, reflecting the local ecclesiastical traditions.

The interior spans 45.72 meters in length, 17.9 meters in width, and 20.4 meters in height, with a baptismal font from 1870 near the west door.

The grey limestone exterior creates an optical illusion, making the substantial cathedral appear smaller than its actual dimensions suggest.
