Rappa Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Ballina, Ireland.
The castle features a three-story center block with four bays and two-story wings, characterized by high-pitched gable-ended roofs and tall chimneys.
The Burke family constructed the initial castle in the fifteenth century, followed by ownership transfers to the Crofton family and later the Knox family in 1798.
The Knox family maintained significant influence in County Mayo, with multiple generations serving as High Sheriffs and managing extensive lands in the region.
Visitors can find the castle ruins along the N59 route near Ballina, with exploration of the site taking approximately 30 minutes.
A fireplace from the original castle structure remains preserved in a Knox family residence in nearby Killala, connecting past and present architectural elements.
