Pearse Museum, Museum in Rathfarnham, Ireland
The Pearse Museum is a museum in Rathfarnham, County Dublin, housed in a former school building within St. Enda's Park. It displays recreated period rooms and collections of objects connected to Patrick Pearse and his brother William.
Patrick Pearse opened a school for boys here in 1908, placing the Irish language and culture at the center of teaching. After his execution in 1916, the family kept the school running for some years before it closed in 1935 and the building passed into state care.
The museum displays William Pearse's sculptures alongside teaching materials that show how the Irish language was taught in the early 1900s. Visitors can walk through the rooms where these ideas were put into practice.
Entry to the museum is free, and it sits within St. Enda's Park, so a visit can easily combine both. Guided tours are available, and a café in the courtyard is open for refreshments.
One room in the museum is dedicated to nature study, with displays of Irish plants and animals used in the school's lessons. The park around the building also contains small stone structures from the 1700s and 1800s that visitors can discover while walking the grounds.
