Glebe Gallery, Art museum in Letterkenny, Ireland.
Glebe Gallery is an art museum housed in a 1828 mansion on the shores of Lough Gartan, near Glenveagh National Park. The building contains twentieth-century paintings, prints, and decorative arts alongside Islamic and Japanese art objects collected over decades.
The mansion was built in 1828 and later became the private residence of artist Derek Hill, who lived there for three decades. After his departure, the house was converted into a public art museum, opening its collections to the public.
The house displays artworks that Derek Hill gathered throughout his life, reflecting his personal taste in contemporary and non-Western art. The rooms preserve his original arrangements, giving visitors a sense of how he lived among these pieces.
The museum is open daily from May through October and offers guided tours led by knowledgeable staff. The site is accessible for wheelchair users, and a café and restrooms are available on the grounds.
The interior displays original William Morris textiles and Derek Hill's personal belongings arranged as he left them. This creates the striking impression that the artist continues to inhabit the space.
