Monastery of Mohill-Manchan, Early Christian monastery ruins in Mohill, County Leitrim, Ireland.
The monastery site contains remnants of an old school house and the base of a round tower beneath the current Saint Mary's Church.
Saint Manchan established the monastery between 500 and 538 AD, which later transformed into an Augustinian priory dedicated to Saint Mary around 1216.
The monastery grounds served as a sanctuary for fugitives and maintained religious authority through a combined system of bishop, abbot, and erenagh leadership.
The religious complex extended across the river, encompassing multiple townlands, with its daughter church established at Cloonmorris between 500 and 700 AD.
During the Irish Confederate period of 1642-1649, the monastery experienced a brief revival before its final suppression by Cromwellian forces in the 1650s.
