Scots Church, Cobh, Gothic Revival church in Cobh, Ireland
Scots Church is a church building in Cobh with a three-part nave and a limestone tower topped by a soaring spire that can be seen from around town. Sandstone and terracotta details are mixed into the Gothic Revival design throughout the structure.
The building opened in 1854 to serve the Presbyterian community when the town was still called Queenstown. Religious services ended in the middle of the 1900s and the structure found a new purpose as a museum.
After ceasing religious services in 1965, the building transformed into the Cobh Museum in 1973, preserving maritime artifacts and local historical records.
The building is open to visitors who want to learn about local history and the museum collection inside. From outside you can admire the architectural details and the distinctive spire that stands out from many spots around town.
The building now houses exhibits focused on emigration records and maritime heritage rather than serving as an active place of worship. Visitors can explore documentation that reveals the thousands of people who left Ireland through this port over many decades.
