Qesem Cave, Prehistoric cave in Tel Aviv, Israel
The limestone cave extends across 200 square meters, reaching heights of 10 meters with several unexplored passages within the Judean Hills slopes.
Discovered in 2000 during road construction, the cave contains artifacts and remains from human settlements dating between 420,000 and 200,000 years ago.
The excavated layers reveal advanced stone tool manufacturing techniques, including blades and scrapers, indicating sophisticated craftsmanship among early human populations.
Located 90 meters above sea level and 12 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, researchers access the cave through coordinated archaeological expeditions.
The site contains one of the oldest documented instances of regular fire usage, with hearths reaching temperatures of 500 degrees Celsius.
