Haifa, Port city in northern Israel
The city extends across Mount Carmel slopes, containing numerous neighborhoods from sea level up to 475 meters elevation with views of the Mediterranean Sea.
The settlement dates back to the Late Bronze Age with Tell Abu Hawam port, later controlled by Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders, and British forces.
The German Colony district features stone buildings from 1868, established by the German Templar Society near the current port area.
The Carmelit, Israel's only underground transit system, connects six stations through Mount Carmel, operating Sunday through Thursday from morning until evening.
The Bahai Gardens include 19 terraces that stretch one kilometer up Mount Carmel, featuring geometric flower beds and water fountains at different levels.
