Mitzpe Hila, Community settlement in Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council, Israel.
Mitzpe Hila is a community settlement on a hilltop in the western Galilee region of northern Israel, within the Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council area. It sits among forested slopes and open land, close to the Lebanese border.
The settlement was founded in 1980 as part of an initiative to establish new communities on hilltops across the Galilee. It was originally known as Mitzpe Ziv, named after a nearby mountain, before it was renamed.
The name Mitzpe Hila refers to the nearby Arab village of Hila, which gave the settlement its current name. The surrounding hills and trails reflect the landscape of western Galilee that shapes daily life here.
The roads leading to the settlement are winding and steep, so having your own vehicle makes the trip much easier. Small guesthouses and rental cabins in the area offer options for those who want to stay overnight.
The first residents of the settlement lived in prefabricated houses that were transported to the hilltop before any permanent buildings existed. This allowed the community to take root quickly, starting daily life on the hill long before lasting structures were put in place.
