Or Zaruaa Synagogue

The Or Zaruaa Synagogue features a Neo-Mauresque architectural design with Jerusalem stone walls, tall windows, and a two-story structure at 3 Shmuel Refaeli Street.

Founded in 1926 by Rabbi Amram Aburbeh for Maghrebi Jews from North Africa, the synagogue opened its doors in 1927 with funding from Spanish philanthropist Don Yamin Ben Harroch.

The synagogue functions as both a place of worship and a Beit Midrash, providing religious education and maintaining traditions of the Maghrebi Jewish community.

The main prayer hall occupies the second floor with space for 150 worshippers, while the ground floor contains a kindergarten for community children.

During construction, Rabbi Amram Aburbeh established a requirement that only Jewish workers would be employed to build the synagogue, reflecting community values.
