Ammunition Hill

Ammunition Hill is a memorial complex in Jerusalem featuring preserved military bunkers, trenches, and defensive structures. These original installations from 1967 allow visitors to walk through the actual spaces where combat took place.

The hill became a key target in June 1967 when Israeli paratroopers captured it from Jordanian forces during the Six Day War. This battle proved pivotal in determining control of the city.

The olive trees in the memorial garden create a space for quiet remembrance as visitors walk among them. Each tree represents a fallen soldier, making the space feel personal and contemplative.

The site sits on a hillside and requires sturdy shoes and willingness to climb and descend uneven terrain. Visitors should plan time to explore the underground structures and be prepared for varied ground conditions.

The underground communication tunnels and bunkers remain in their original condition, offering an authentic sense of daily life during that time. Walking through these spaces provides direct insight into the conditions soldiers faced.
