Hebbe Falls

Hebbe Falls is a waterfall in Kemmangundi in the Indian state of Karnataka, consisting of two tiers that drop a total of 168 meters. The upper section is called Dodda Hebbe and falls from greater height, while the lower part is known as Chikka Hebbe and flows over wide rock faces.

The site was opened during British colonial rule when Kemmangundi was developed as a hill station. The Karnataka administration later established visitor access and took charge of the area.

The term comes from Kannada and refers to an important water source for surrounding communities. Farmers from the area have visited the source for generations and use it as a meeting point during harvest time.

The route to the falls passes through coffee plantations and requires a jeep ride with forest department permission, followed by a trek of roughly one kilometer. The trail runs through dense forest with slippery sections, so sturdy footwear and some stamina are recommended.

The water flows through rock with high iron content and picks up minerals from the surrounding soil. Some visitors notice a slight magnetic pull near certain rocks along the riverbed.
