Veera Narayana Temple, Belavadi, Hindu temple in Belavadi, India.
Veera Narayana Temple is a shrine in Belavadi with three square sanctums linked by an extended corridor with detailed carvings. The walls throughout display finely carved stone figures and deities that reflect the craftsmanship of the period.
The shrine was built around 1200 CE by King Veera Ballala II during the Hoysala rule. Soapstone was the primary material that builders chose for their detailed decorative work.
The temple's name honors King Veera Ballala II, who commissioned it, and his patronage is still remembered in local worship practices. Multiple shrines dedicated to different forms of Vishnu show how several Hindu traditions coexist within the same sacred space.
The shrine sits about 11 kilometers north of Halebidu and is reachable by National Highway 73. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes to walk easily across the temple grounds.
The interior pillars are polished and feature a distinctive striped pattern that makes them visually striking. The ceiling panels also display intricately carved scenes from Hindu mythology, especially stories about Krishna.
