Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, Bhadravathi, Hindu temple in Bhadravathi, India.
Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is a Hindu temple in Bhadravathi, in the Shivamogga district, made up of three connected sanctums arranged around a central hall. The outer walls are covered in detailed stone carvings, and the interior is supported by turned pillars that give the space a hand-crafted quality.
The temple was built in the early 13th century under the Hoysala ruler Vira Someshwara, using soapstone as the main building material. The Vesara style of construction, which draws from both northern and southern Indian architectural traditions, shaped the overall form of the building.
The outer walls show stone carvings of deities from Vaishnavism, Shaivism, and Shaktism traditions, which visitors can observe while walking around the structure. These carved figures give the sanctuary a layered visual quality that reflects a long tradition of religious practice at this site.
The temple is located in Bhadravathi and can be reached from Shimoga by local bus or from nearby train stations. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear, as the site includes a raised platform and uneven surfaces that require careful footing.
Unlike many temples of its type, the circumambulation path here runs along the outer raised platform, known as jagati, rather than through an interior corridor. This means pilgrims and visitors walk around the outside of the structure as part of their devotional circuit.
