Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari, Wildlife safari park in Shivamogga, India
Tyavarekoppa Safari spreads across around 250 hectares and houses Bengal tigers, Asiatic lions, Indian leopards, and various bird species in naturalistic enclosures. The grounds are divided into different zones where each species lives in environments suited to their needs.
The wildlife sanctuary was established in 1988 by the Karnataka Forest Department as the state's second safari park after Bannerghatta National Park near Bangalore. The facility was created to protect and preserve animals in spacious habitats away from urban areas.
The reserve functions as a rehabilitation center for circus animals, showing India's commitment to protecting native wildlife. Visitors can observe how rescued animals regain their natural behaviors in larger spaces designed for their well-being.
The park is open daily and visitors can ride through different zones in vehicles to observe animals in their enclosures. It is best to arrive early when animals are most active, and bringing a camera is helpful for capturing wildlife moments.
A rare black panther was born at the facility in 2012 and remains one of the most striking residents of the park. This animal captivates visitors particularly because black panthers are seldom seen in the wild.
