Sadni Falls, Waterfall along Sankh River in Gumla, India
Sadni Falls is a waterfall on the Sankh River, located near Dumri in Gumla district, Jharkhand. The water drops over a series of rocky shelves and follows a winding course down the stone surface before pooling at the base.
The area around the Sankh River was known during medieval times for diamond deposits that were mined from the surrounding land. This activity shaped the local landscape and brought outside attention to what was otherwise a remote region.
The falls are a popular gathering spot for families and groups from nearby villages, especially on holidays. The wide flat rocks around the water serve as natural resting places where people share meals and spend time together.
The falls can be reached from Ranchi by taking a bus toward Netarhat and then using local transport for the last stretch. Visiting during or just after the monsoon season gives the best experience, as the water runs at its highest.
Unlike many waterfalls in the region that slow to a trickle in dry months, this one keeps a steady flow throughout the year thanks to the Sankh River. This means the site looks much the same whether you visit in October or in March.
