Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls is a waterfall in Ranchi district , India , where the Kanchi River drops over a cliff measuring 144 feet (44 meters). The water gathers in a natural pool surrounded by dense forest terrain with rocks and vegetation .

The area was home to Mundari tribes for centuries , who gave the waterfall its name . In the 20th century , the site became more accessible to visitors while the surrounding environment remained largely natural .

The name comes from Mundari words combining "da" for water and "som" for collecting , reflecting how local communities understood this place . Families still visit during monsoon months to witness the full force of the cascade .

The waterfall is located around 34 kilometers from Ranchi along the Ranchi-Tata Highway and can be reached by car or taxi . The best time to visit is during or shortly after the monsoon season when water flow is strongest .

During rainy season , the water divides into roughly ten separate streams flowing parallel down the rock face . This division changes with water levels and creates different patterns across the width of the falls .
