Jonha Falls, Natural waterfall in Ranchi district, India.
Jonha Falls is a waterfall in Ranchi district, India, where the Gunga River joins the Radu River. The water drops roughly 140 feet (43 meters) straight down from the plateau edge, throwing up constant spray and mist at the base pool below.
A Buddhist temple sits atop Gautam Pahar near the falls, standing there for several centuries. Raja Baldev Das Birla built the structure, connecting it to older religious traditions of the region.
Local residents gather at the falls twice weekly for traditional markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays, establishing the location as a community meeting point.
Two paths lead down to the falls: a road through Jonha Fall Resort or 722 steps from the upper viewing area. The stairway route is steep and slippery when wet, so sturdy footwear helps for the entire descent.
The drop formed at a point where the riverbed suddenly changes slope and the plateau breaks off. This geological threshold means the water does not flow over gentle steps but falls freely into space below.
