Parasnath, Sacred mountain peak in Giridih district, India
Parasnath stands as the highest point in Jharkhand at 1,366 meters (4,485 feet) and rises above the surrounding landscape of Giridih district. Dense forests cloak the mountainside with multiple trails carved through the vegetation leading upward to the summit.
The mountain takes its name from Parshvanatha, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara, with stone structures dating to around 2,000 years ago. These ancient constructions reveal the longstanding religious importance of this location through the centuries.
This peak holds deep spiritual meaning for Jain devotees, with multiple marble temples crowning the summit where pilgrims come to meditate and pray. The temples reflect centuries of religious devotion and remain active places of worship today.
The trek from Madhuvan village to the summit covers about 11 kilometers with a significant elevation gain and takes several hours to complete. Accommodation is available in local guesthouses, and visitors should begin early in the day and carry adequate water and supplies.
On exceptionally clear days, visitors sometimes spot the distant Himalayan peaks from the summit, rewarding those who reach the top with a view of mountains hundreds of kilometers away. Such clear sightlines are rare and make the climb feel truly special.
