Hundru Falls, Waterfall in Ranchi district, India
Hundru Falls is a waterfall on the Subarnarekha River in Ranchi district, Jharkhand state, India. The water drops from an isolated plateau edge and splits into two main streams connected by several smaller flows.
The waterfall was known to local tribes before colonial times and served as a source for plant resources. Regional authorities later built viewing platforms and improved access routes to this natural site.
The name refers to one hundred water sources and links to the many streams that appear during monsoon months. Visitors often gather in groups near the cascades to share meals and spend time outdoors.
The best time to visit is from July to October when rains increase the water flow. Viewing areas are accessible via short walks from the entrance, but proper footwear is advised as rocks can be slippery.
During the monsoon, water drops so fast that a fine mist hovers over the surrounding rocks. Dense forest trees reach the edges of the falls, giving it a lush green appearance.
