Malbazar, City/town in West Bengal, India
Malbazar is a town in Jalpaiguri District in West Bengal situated in the eastern Dooars region. Located about 55 kilometers from Siliguri and 65 kilometers from Jalpaiguri on a main highway, it is surrounded by tea gardens, small villages, and the nearby Teesta River.
Malbazar began as a small village before the British government developed it as a tea garden area. The British valued the local tea gardens, which led to the town growing around them, making tea central to the region's identity ever since.
The name Malbazar comes from the Bengali word "Mal," meaning flower. Tea gardens shape the town's character and daily life, as tea cultivation and tourism form the economic and social foundation of the local community.
The best time to visit is from September to March when the weather is cool and comfortable for outdoor activities. The monsoon season can make roads muddy and difficult to navigate, so travelers prefer the late fall and winter months.
The Coronation Bridge is a notable architectural feature that visitors cross, offering clear views of the flowing Teesta River below. The river's color changes seasonally, creating visually different experiences on different visits.
