Panipat district is an administrative division in Haryana, located in northern India. The area is divided into five smaller administrative subdivisions called Tehsils—Bapoli, Israna, Matlauda, Panipat, and Samalkha—which together form the regional structure.
The area was historically part of the Mughal Empire under Delhi's administration. It took its current form in 1992 after several administrative reorganizations.
The population of 1.2 million residents communicates primarily in three languages: Haryanvi at 48 percent, Hindi at 43 percent, and Punjabi at 6 percent.
The district is accessible via National Highways 1 and 71A, which connect it to major cities. It has four separate Vidhan Sabha constituencies that serve as local representation areas.
The district is home to the world's largest textile recycling center, with numerous traditional and modern weaving facilities. The operations process substantial quantities of materials into new products daily.
