Rohtak Zoo, Zoo in Rohtak, India.
Rohtak Zoo is a wildlife park in Haryana, India, set on a large plot of land that includes a natural lake and enclosures for a wide range of native species. Animals on site include tigers, leopards, gharials, hyenas, foxes, jackals, otters, baboons, and several species of deer.
The zoo was founded in 1987 by the Haryana state government, which brought together several smaller animal collections from across the state into one single site. In 2001, the Wildlife Advisory Board recommended improvements to animal care standards, which guided later changes at the park.
The Rohtak Zoo sits next to Tilyar Lake, a popular spot for families from the surrounding region. Many visitors spend a full day here, moving between the animal enclosures and the lake shore.
The park is open daily and lies roughly 42 kilometers from Delhi's border, making it reachable for a day visit from the capital. Arriving in the morning helps avoid the midday heat, and shaded rest areas and observation towers are available around the grounds.
The zoo grounds connect directly to Tilyar Lake, where visitors can also go fishing and enjoy other water activities on the same day. This pairing of a wildlife park with a working recreational lake is unusual for the region.
