Dharashiv is a city in Maharashtra situated at 653 meters elevation with rocky terrain and open plains characteristic of the region. It developed along the Bhogavati River, which shapes the geography and landscape around the settlement.
The city was previously named Osmanabad, after Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last ruler of Hyderabad who governed until 1948. Its renaming to Dharashiv represents a shift in local identity and administrative change in the post-independence period.
