Mahendragarh, Administrative city in Mahendragarh district, India
Mahendragarh is an administrative city in its namesake district, located approximately 100 kilometers from Gurgaon within the National Capital Region. The settlement spans several neighborhoods and functions as a local administrative and commercial center.
The settlement was originally known as Kanaud, named after Kanaudia Brahmins, until it received its current name in 1860 when Maharaja Mahendra Singh of Patiala State renamed it. This change marked a significant shift in the region's administrative history.
The Yaduvanshi Ahirs form the main community group in Mahendragarh, with Hindi and Haryanvi as primary languages among the population.
The city has a local healthcare and education system with several hospitals and schools serving the population. Visitors will find basic amenities and a typical Indian administrative town with everyday services.
The town is home to India's first guggul vatika, a dedicated garden for growing Commiphora wightii, a valuable medicinal plant. This project makes the place an important center for preserving this rare botanical species.
