Raigarh district

The district spans 7,086 square kilometers across central Chhattisgarh state with nine administrative subdivisions and a population exceeding 1.1 million residents.

The district emerged from the consolidation of multiple princely states including Raigarh, Sakti, Sarangarh, and Udaipur, with subsequent territorial changes in 2021.

The population maintains deep connections to traditional practices, with Hinduism representing 93.86 percent of residents and Chhattisgarhi being the primary language.

The district functions as an industrial center with numerous steel and power plants, processing approximately 20,000 tons of coal daily for energy production.

The district houses one of India's oldest operational jute mills, the Mohan jute mill, which dates back to the period of undivided Madhya Pradesh.
