Umaid Bhawan Palace, Royal palace in Jodhpur, India
The palace features 347 rooms adorned with marble decorations, expansive gardens, and grand halls built with sandstone blocks from local quarries.
Construction began in 1929 during a severe drought when Maharaja Umaid Singh initiated the project to provide employment for thousands of people.
The palace combines Indian architectural elements with Art Deco design, incorporating domed structures, columns, and traditional Rajasthani craftsmanship throughout the interior.
The palace operates as three separate entities: a luxury hotel managed by Taj Hotels, a museum displaying royal artifacts, and a private residence.
During its initial operation, the palace consumed 2500 kilowatts of electricity, which exceeded three times the total power usage of Jodhpur city.
