Sachiya Mata Temple, Hindu temple in Osian, India
Sachiya Mata Temple is a 12th-century monument in Osian, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan. Its outer façades and columns display figures of gods, animals and mythological scenes carved in sandstone.
Parmar Rajput rulers commissioned the construction in 1177, when Osian was a hub for caravans traveling west. The site remained an active place of worship through centuries, even as political powers in the region shifted.
The name derives from goddess Sachiya Mata, a regional form of the divine mother revered as a protector. Pilgrims and visitors walk around the interior and pause before the carved wall panels, where they offer prayers and leave small offerings.
Access is through a stairway leading to the entrance, and most areas can be explored on foot. Visitors should arrive early in the morning or towards evening, when the heat eases and light illuminates the carvings.
Inside the sanctum, two representations of the goddess stand side by side, one as Sachiya Mata and one as Mahishasuramardini, slaying the buffalo demon. This arrangement is rare in the region and shows how different forms of the same divine power are worshipped together.
