Jaisalmer War Museum, Military museum in Jaisalmer, India.
Jaisalmer War Museum is a military museum located on the highway between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, in the state of Rajasthan. It has two indoor exhibition halls, an audio-visual room, and an open-air area displaying aircraft, tanks, artillery pieces, and military vehicles.
The museum opened in 2015, established by the Indian Army to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1965 war with Pakistan. Over time, it expanded to cover the 1971 conflict as well, drawing on the region's direct role in both wars.
A wall inside the museum displays the names of Indian soldiers who received gallantry awards. For many visitors, especially those with family ties to the military, this is the most personal part of the visit.
The museum sits along a main road and is easy to reach by car or taxi from Jaisalmer. The outdoor section with vehicles and aircraft is large, so wearing comfortable shoes and visiting in the morning is a good idea to avoid the midday heat.
A Hunter jet that flew during the Battle of Longewala in 1971 is on display in the outdoor area. That battle was later turned into a popular 1997 Hindi film called Border, which many Indian visitors recognize immediately.
