Desert National Park, National park in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts, India.

The Desert National Park stretches across sand dunes, rocky hills, and dried salt lake beds in the Thar Desert. The terrain shifts between flat plains and rolling sand surfaces broken by gravel patches and scattered shrubs.

The area became a protected zone in the 1980s to preserve the desert ecology. Fossil discoveries from the Jurassic era show that a sea once covered this land millions of years ago.

Nomadic herders move through the region with goats and sheep, following routes that have existed for generations. Settlements at the edge of the park show mud architecture and well systems adapted to life in the desert.

Access points in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts serve as entry gates, with guided tours recommended for wildlife watching. Early morning and late afternoon offer the most comfortable conditions for exploration on foot or by vehicle.

The great Indian bustard lives in this area and ranks among the rarest birds in the world. Visitors can also spot tracks in the sand left by desert foxes and gazelles that become active at night.

In Rajasthan, there is a city that is all blue.

In this part of northern India, sandstone forts stand on the hills while the desert is home to tigers and villages where people still weave by hand.
