Singalila National Park, National park and bird sanctuary in Darjeeling district, India.
Singalila National Park is a protected area in the Darjeeling mountains that spans multiple elevation zones with diverse forest types covering the slopes. Magnolia, rhododendron, and oak trees form the main vegetation throughout the landscape.
The British administration took control of the Singalila region from Sikkim in 1882 and established it as a Reserve Forest under Indian law. This action laid the groundwork for the park as it exists today.
The communities living near the reserve share their customs with visitors through local cooking and seasonal festivals that take place throughout the year.
Visitors can start treks from several entry points, with Maneybhanjang being a common choice for the main routes. The best time to visit is from October to May when weather conditions are more stable and trails are in good condition.
The park contains three distinct forest types in a relatively compact area, allowing rare bird species to thrive in close proximity to one another. This concentration makes it a special destination for bird watchers.
