Sambhal district covers 2,453 square kilometers within the Moradabad division, bordered by Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Badaun, Aligarh, and Bulandshahr districts.
The district emerged from Moradabad district in 2012, retaining its 500-year-old name despite proposals to rename it Bhimnagar after social reformer Bhimrao Ambedkar.
The district population includes 66.66% Hindu and 32.88% Muslim residents, with Hindi and Urdu as primary languages across its three administrative tehsils.
The district headquarters operates from Bahjoi town, managing 993 villages and 16 police stations through a network of administrative services.
Local artisans maintain wooden carving industries, producing detailed items for domestic markets and international export from workshops across the district.
