Palakkad Fort, Military fort in Palakkad, India
The Palakkad Fort occupies 5 acres of land with sturdy laterite walls and multiple bastions forming a square structure in central Kerala.
Sultan Hyder Ali reconstructed this strategic fortification in 1766 to defend the border between the Kingdoms of Travancore and Mysore.
The fort complex includes an Anjaneya Swamy temple at its eastern entrance with a carved figure of Lord Hanuman on the inner wall.
The fort grounds serve as a public space with a children's park, an open-air auditorium, and areas for cricket matches and exhibitions.
The fort houses the Palakkad Special Sub Jail within its premises while remaining open to visitors as a national monument.
