Shankumugham Beach

Shankumugham Beach is a sandy beach along the Arabian Sea coast in Thiruvananthapuram, featuring palm trees that line the shore. Fishing boats dot the water, and the beach stretches along the waterfront.

The area began as a traditional fishing settlement along Kerala's coast. During the 1960s, it became a public recreational beach and has since developed as a destination for visitors.

Local fishing traditions shape the northern part of the beach, where people still repair nets and prepare boats for daily work. This way of life remains visible and active throughout the day.

The beach is open daily with lifeguards present, making it safe for swimming. Vendors along the shore offer local snacks and fresh coconut water throughout the day.

A 35-meter concrete mermaid sculpture sits on the sand and serves as a popular gathering point for photos. This artwork has become a recognizable landmark on the beach.
