Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram Temple, Ancient Hindu temple in Puthenchantha, Kerala
The Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram Temple features traditional Kerala architecture with intricate woodwork, stone carvings, and a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Dating back to the 9th century AD, this temple was positioned along the ceremonial route used by Travancore kings during Pallivetta ceremonies.
The temple maintains daily rituals and ceremonies under the guidance of Vanchiyoor Athiyara Potti, who serves as the hereditary Tantri.
Visitors can access the temple between 4 AM to 12 PM and 5 PM to 8:30 PM, with local buses and auto-rickshaws providing transportation from Thiruvananthapuram.
The temple grounds contain what devotees believe to be the samadhi of Sage Kanwa, connecting the site to ancient spiritual traditions.
