Trivandrum Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Trivandrum, India
The observatory stands at an elevation of 60 meters above sea level on a hill, representing the highest point in Trivandrum city.
The Maharaja of Travancore established the observatory in 1837, appointing John Caldecott as the first royal astronomer to conduct astronomical research.
The Department of Physics at Kerala University manages this scientific institution, which contributes to astronomical education and research in southern India.
The facility opens from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM except Sundays and national holidays, with entrance fees of 10 rupees for adults.
The observatory houses an 11-inch telescope, CCD camera, sun workstations, and computational facilities for astronomical measurements and research activities.
