Mithrananthapuram Trimurti Temple

Mithrananthapuram Trimurti Temple, Hindu temple in Thiruvananthapuram, India

Mithrananthapuram Trimurti Temple is a Hindu temple in Kerala with three separate shrines, each dedicated to one of the principal deities of Hinduism. The complex is traditionally oriented with each shrine facing east, following conventions of temple architecture in the region.

The site was founded in 1168 and underwent significant rebuilding over the centuries, particularly under Maharaja Marthanda Varma in the 18th century. These renovations helped the structure endure and maintain its importance in the region.

The temple serves as a gathering place where devotees come to worship the three deities and participate in religious observances that shape the spiritual life of the region. The festivals that occur here draw scholars and worshippers who engage in collective sacred practices.

The temple is accessible during morning and evening hours with a midday break, so plan your visit accordingly. The grounds are relatively easy to navigate and offer space to explore the different shrine areas.

This site contains a rare shrine dedicated to Brahma, a deity seldom found in most Indian temples, making the site quite special. The statue housed there depicts the god with features that differ from conventional representations found elsewhere.
