Chopra community development block, Administrative block in Islampur subdivision, India
Chopra community development block is an administrative unit in Uttar Dinajpur district, West Bengal, falling under Islampur subdivision. It is made up of eight Gram Panchayats, which serve as the local governing bodies for the villages and communities across the block.
The block was established in 1964 as part of the Community Development Programme in the former West Dinajpur district. This was part of a broader reorganization of local administration that took place across the region at that time.
The literary magazine Unmukta Dwar was founded in 1997 and gives a platform to writers and literary voices from the region. It plays a role in keeping local storytelling traditions visible and accessible to readers across the area.
Banks, health centers, and other services are spread across different parts of the block, so it helps to plan ahead and know which location you need before setting out. Distances between facilities can be long, so combining several stops in one trip is a practical approach.
Although the block is part of a large district, it has its own agricultural bank dedicated specifically to the needs of local farmers, separate from the commercial banks in the area. This kind of specialized financial infrastructure at block level is not found in every administrative unit across West Bengal.
