Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Research institute and deemed university in Deccan Gymkhana, India
The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics is a research institution and university in the Deccan Gymkhana neighborhood of Pune. The grounds hold lecture halls, seminar rooms, offices for teaching staff, and a library named after Dhananjaya Rao Gadgil.
The institution opened on June 6, 1930, when R. R. Kale established it as a center for research and higher learning. The Servants of India Society provided initial funding through an endowment.
The institute maintains a quarterly journal, Artha Vijnana, which publishes research works focused on economic and political developments in India.
Master's programs in economics, financial economics, agricultural business economics, and international business economics are open to local and foreign students. The curricula combine theoretical approaches with current topics in economic research.
A new master's program links economics with geopolitical questions and examines how political developments influence economic relationships. The program looks at international trade patterns and regional cooperation from an interdisciplinary perspective.
