Ranade Institute, Heritage educational institute in Deccan Gymkhana, India
The Ranade Institute is an educational building on Fergusson College Road that houses two departments of Pune University: one focused on communication and journalism, and another dedicated to foreign languages. The facility serves as a center for advanced study in both fields.
The institute was built in 1910 and developed as an educational facility over many years. It received official recognition as a regular department of Pune University in 1976.
The institute expanded its educational offerings from journalism to mass communication, incorporating changes in media education through specialized diploma and degree programs.
The building is easy to locate on Fergusson College Road where both departments operate from the same grounds. Visitors can explore the separate sections dedicated to each field of study.
The Department of Communication and Journalism began with a Rs.10,000 endowment from Shri K. A. Kolhatkar in 1956, establishing the Sandeshkar Kolhatkar Scholarship.
