Lajpat Nagar metro station, Metro station in Delhi, India
Lajpat Nagar metro station is an interchange station in New Delhi, located on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and serving both the Violet Line and the Pink Line. The station is built on two levels, with four tracks in total and separate platform arrangements for each line.
The station opened on October 3, 2010 as part of the Violet Line, just before the Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi. The Pink Line connection was added on August 6, 2018, turning it into a two-line interchange.
The station exits open right into the Lajpat Nagar market, one of Delhi's most visited spots for clothes, jewelry, and everyday goods. Stepping out, visitors immediately find themselves among shoppers and street vendors moving through the narrow lanes.
The station has no parking, so most visitors arrive on foot or by other public transport. Ramps and elevators make it accessible for passengers with reduced mobility, and the two levels are clearly signed to help with orientation.
Although both lines share the same station building, they run at completely different levels: the Violet Line operates above ground while the Pink Line runs underground. This vertical layout makes the transfer between lines a noticeable shift, moving from open air to a tunnel environment within the same station.
