The college was established in 1957 by the physician and entrepreneur T. M. A. Pai, who launched it with a course in civil engineering. Over the decades, the offering expanded to include programs in computer science, electronics, and other engineering disciplines.
Students participate in two major annual events: the cultural festival Revels and the technical festival Tech Tatva, which attract participants nationwide.
Visitors can tour the public areas of the campus but should register with the administration beforehand. The grounds are quieter and easier to explore on weekends.
