Mysuru Rail Museum, Railway transport museum in Mysore, India.
The Railway Museum Mysore is an outdoor exhibit of vintage locomotives on Krishnaraja Sagar Road, opposite the Central Food Technology and Research Institute. Its collection includes the ES 506 4-6-2 at the entrance, an Austin rail-motor car, inspection cars, two royal coaches of the Maharaja of Mysore, and the Maharani Saloon carriage of 1899 with a kitchen, dining unit and royal toilet. A gallery of photographs and paintings, railway signals and lights are also displayed.
The museum was founded in 1979 as India's second railway museum and has been collecting artifacts from the railway industry ever since. It houses locomotives and original equipment from the era of Mysore State Railways.
Two royal coaches of the Maharaja of Mysore are on display, alongside the Maharani Saloon carriage dating from 1899, which contains a kitchen, a dining car unit and a royal toilet. These carriages show how the Mysore royal family travelled by rail.
The museum is located near the city center and can be reached easily by public transport or car. Plan to spend a few hours exploring the outdoor displays, especially during cooler parts of the day.
Among the exhibits is a 1925 Austin car that was originally built for roads but was later specially modified to run on railway tracks. This unusual vehicle shows the creativity people used to adapt transportation in different ways.
